Carpenter sues Southern Arch for allegedly failing to pay overtime

Overtime clock

NEW ORLEANS – A Louisiana man has filed a class action lawsuit against his Belle Chase employer, claiming it owes him and other workers for unpaid overtime wages.

Rene Orlando Lopez, on behalf of himself and others similarly situated, filed a class-action lawsuit Nov. 24 against Southern Arch and its owner-operator, Gary Hess, alleging violations of the Fair Labor Standards Act.

According to the complaint, Lopez began working as a laborer for Southern Arch in early 2013, restoring windows, cabinets and doors and performing other general carpentry work. Although Lopez routinely worked more than 40 hours a week, the suit says he was never paid time and a half for those hours.

Lopez seeks a jury trial and compensation for unpaid overtime, pre- and post-judgment interest, and litigation costs. He is represented by attorneys Roberto Luis Costales and William H. Beaumont of New Orleans.
