Texas man accused of causing fatal car crash

Police light

NEW ORLEANS – A St. Charles Parish woman says a driver who ran a red light and made a U-turn caused a collision, injuring her son and killing his father.

Courtney Thomas, on behalf of her minor child, Garrett Russo, and Peyton Russo, filed a lawsuit Dec. 2 in the U.S. District Court for the Eastern District of Pennsylvania against Gustavo Gomez and Hallmark Insurance Co., alleging wrongful death and negligence.

Accord to the complaint, Garrett Russo was a passenger in a car driven by his father, Daniel Russo, on Oct. 22 when Gomez ran a red light, colliding with Russo’s vehicle. The suit says the wreck, which occurred at the intersection of U.S. Highway 190 and Park Drive in Covington, left Daniel dead and his son wounded.

The plaintiffs seek a jury trial and punitive and compensatory damages. They are represented by attorney Rodney Kelp Littlefield of Littlefield Law in New Orleans.
