NEW ORLEANS – A Louisiana firm is suing Virginia-based James C. Justice Cos. for allegedly failing to pay for legal work it performed for an ongoing case.

Phelps Dunbar LLP filed a lawsuit Dec. 7 in U.S. District Court for the Eastern District of Louisiana against James C. Justice Cos. Inc., alleging breach of contract.

According to the complaint, JJC retained Phelps Dunbar in 2011 to defend it in a lawsuit filed by Celtic Marine Corp. Over the next few years, Phelps filed an answer to the complaint, performed extensive discovery related to the case and other legal work for which they have not been paid.

Phelps Dunbar seeks punitive and compensatory damages in an amount to be proven at trial, plus interest and litigation costs. It is represented by its attorneys Harry Rosenberg and Tessa Vorhaben of Phelps Dunbar LLP in New Orleans.
