NEW ORLEANS – A wife is suing Janssen, a major drug corporation, alleging negligence and fraud in the death of her husband.

Alice Nunnery filed a complaint on June 4 in the U.S. District Court for the Eastern District of Louisiana against Janssen Research and Development LLC, et al alleging negligence, wrongful death, fraud and other counts.

According to the complaint, Nunnery's husband, Gary Nunnery, was prescribed the drug Xarelto for treatment and prevention of strokes and other health conditions. The plaintiff claims that her husband suffered life-threatening bleeding in May 2014 as a result of taking the drug and died on June 5, 2014. During his use of the drug from June 2013 to June 2014, however, the plaintiffs were not made fully aware of the danger associated with taking the drug. Xarelto has been discovered to be highly dangerous, with serious implications, such as heavy internal bleeding and death, the complaint states. The plaintiff is suing Janssen for its failure to disclose all the details of the drug and for negligence.

Nunnery is seeking compensation for all of her losses and damages suffered, both financial and emotional. She is represented by Brian J. Perkins of Meyers and Flowers LLC in St. Charles. The case is being heard by Judge Eldon Fallon.
