NEW ORLEANS – A disabled St. Tammany Parish woman is suing Hollycrest Shopping Center, claiming its accommodations restrict handicapped access.

Yadi Mark filed a lawsuit Jan. 18 in U.S. District Court for the Eastern District of Louisiana against Hollycrest Shopping Center LLC, alleging violations of the Americans with Disabilities Act.

According to the complaint, Mark has experienced serious difficulty accessing the goods and services offered at Hollycrest Plaza at 600 N. Highway 190 in Covington. The plaintiff, who uses a wheelchair, says the handicapped-designated parking spaces lack proper signage and are too narrow, and that the curb ramps are missing side flairs or edge protections.

Mark is asking the court to rule that the barriers violate the ADA, as well as an order for Hollycrest to make the necessary improvements. She is represented by attorneys Andrew D. Bizer, Garret S. DeReus and Amanda K. Klevorn of the Bizer Law Firm in New Orleans.
