NEW ORLEANS – A LaFourche Parish woman says that when she reported a supervisor’s alleged sexual harassment at LaShip, she became the target of retaliation.

Kiera Johnson filed a lawsuit Jan. 22 in U.S. District Court for the Eastern District of Louisiana against LaShip LLC and Greg Adams, alleging unlawful discrimination, harassment and retaliation for filing a complaint.

According to the complaint, Johnson began working for the defendant as a roustabout in September 2014. During her employment, the plaintiff claims she was sexually harassed by shipyard manager Adams, who allegedly victimized her with unwanted touching and pressured her for sex in exchange for promotions or raises.

Although Johnson refused the advances and reported them to management, the suit says no action was taken to protect her from harassment. After she complained, Johnson says she was given less desirable work assignment, threatened with job loss and discharged on June 19.

Johnson seeks an injunction preventing the defendant’s alleged conduct, reinstatement to her former position, monetary damages to be proven at trial, interest and litigation costs. She is represented by Metairie attorneys Julie Anne Gardner of Gardner & Steib, Attorneys at Law LLC and Dayal S. Reddy.
