Administrative assistant claims that her employer fired her due to her race

Handiscriminate

NEW ORLEANS – An administrative assistant is seeking damages against her former employer over alleged wrongful termination and discriminatory practices.

Leslie Livers filed a lawsuit on March 3 in the U.S. District Court for the Eastern District Court of Louisiana against Lamarque Ford Inc., alleging violation of Title VII of the Civil Rights Act of 1964.

Livers, an African-American, was allegedly employed by defendant as an administrative assistant from April 14, 2008, to Jan 14, 2015. In 2012, she filed a charge of discrimination with the Equal Employment Opportunity Commission alleging discriminatory practices. An alleged resolution was made after the EEOC filing in which the defendant agreed that Livers would no longer be supervised by Ray Hoffman, the general manager of the company.

However, she claims that the defendant violated the terms and Hoffman engaged in a systematic campaign of discrimination against her, which allegedly included placing her under more scrutiny than her white co-workers with regards to vacation, sick leave and absences, monitoring her under video surveillance more closely than her white counterparts, being given heavier workloads, enforcing a stricter dress code upon her, humiliation, exposing her to racial remarks and imagery, and forcing her to take on a new position, which she declined. Livers alleges that she was promptly terminated after declining the new position on Jan. 14, 2015.

Livers is now suing for damages in addition to court costs, attorney fees and interests. She is represented by Jonathan H. Adams and Peter S. Koeppel at Koeppel Clark Turner in New Orleans.
