Law money 06

NEW ORLEANS – The federal government alleges a U.S. citizen currently living in Panama owes penalties in regards to a foreign bank account.

United States of America filed a complaint on April 12 in the U.S. District Court for the Eastern District of Louisiana against Marian K. Baroni alleging that the woman failed to file a report of foreign bank and financial accounts.

According to the complaint, the plaintiff alleges that it suffered financial losses for non-collection of assessed penalties in the amount of $1,522,484.43. The plaintiff holds Marian K. Baroni responsible because the defendant allegedly willfully failed to timely report her financial interest in a foreign bank account, falsely represented that she had no interest in a foreign financial account, and instructed UBS AG, the financial institution, to hold all mail from the account.

The plaintiff requests a trial by jury and seeks judgment against defendant and in favor of the United States for the assessed penalties in the amount of $1,522,484.43, plus further interest and statutory additions from Nov. 3, 2015, to the date of payment, costs incurred for this action and such other relief as justice requires. It is represented by Katherine Walsh of U.S. Department of Justice in Washington, D.C.
