Woman alleges she was injured when Cousins Fuel Mart's roof collapsed

GRETNA – A Jefferson Parish woman is seeking damages following an incident in which she was allegedly injured by a roof that fell in on her.

Lola Payton filed a suit against Cousins Fuel Mart, doing business as Diaz Market WestWego II, in the 24th Judicial District Court on April 18.

According to the claim, Payton was a customer at Diaz Market, located at 1608 Westbank Expressway in Westwego on July 2, 2015, when the incident occurred. The suit states that the plaintiff was injured when the roof of the building collapsed above the plaintiff. The suit states that debris entered and injured her eyes.

The defendant is accused of negligence through its failure to repair the situation, provide a safe environment for customers, failure to maintain the premises, failure to inspect the premises for such damages and failure to exercise due caution.

The plaintiff is seeking an unspecified amount in damages. She is represented by Nicole L. Oddo, David L. Colvin, Travis J. Causey Jr. and Shelly R. Hale of Colvin Law Firm in Gretna. The case has been assigned to Division M Judge Henry G. Sullivan Jr.
