Widow alleges medical malpractice against Ochsner Medical Center - Kenner LLC

GRETNA – A Jefferson Parish widow is seeking damages following the death of her husband, claiming that it was due in part to the negligence of a medical center.

Esther Flores filed a suit against Ochsner Medical Center - Kenner LLC and Laurie Ann Deshotel in the 24th Judicial District Court on May 2.

According to the claim, Leo Flores, husband of the plaintiff, was admitted to Ochsner Medical Center on Aug. 26, 2011, for treatment following a fall. Upon being admitted, he was classified as a patient who was at high risk of falling, the suit states. Despite the classification, however, the suit states that the medical personnel at the center left him without supervision. The suit states that while alone, Leo Flores fell, sustaining personal injuries. Approximately one year after the fall, Leo Flores died, and the suit states that his death was due in part to the injuries received from his fall at Ochsner Medical Center.

The defendant is accused of medical malpractice in regards to the treatment and lack of supervision of a high-risk patient.

The plaintiff is seeking an unspecified amount in damages. She is represented by Jean E. Lavidalie Jr. and Guy D. Perrier of Perrier and Lacoste LLC in New Orleans.

The case has been assigned to Division I Judge Nancy A. Miller.
