Jefferson Parish alleges negligent driving damaged parish-owned vehicle

GRETNA – Jefferson Parish is suing a woman, alleging that negligence and lack of skill resulted in a car accident with a parish-owned vehicle and employee.

The Parish of Jefferson filed a suit against Valeria Villars and Progressive Specialty Insurance Agency Inc. in the 24th Judicial District Court on May 12.

According to the claim, Villars was driving her 2006 Honda Civic on Veterans Memorial Boulevard when the incident occurred on May 4, 2015. The suit states that while driving her car, Villars struck Jefferson Parish vehicle No. 3511.

The defendant is accused of negligence and lack of skill, failing to keep a proper lookout, driving at an excessive speed, failing to maintain control of the vehicle, as well as failing to apply the brakes in an adequate amount of time.

The plaintiff is seeking an unspecified amount in damages. The plaintiff is represented by W. Reed Smith, senior assistant parish attorney in Jefferson. The case has been assigned to Division E Judge John J. Molaison Jr.
