Man alleges he was terminated for filing workers' compensation claim

GRETNA – A Lafourche Parish man is seeking damages following an incident in which he claims that he was terminated after filing a workers' compensation claim.

Luke Billiot filed a suit against Precision Boring & Utility LLC in the 24th Judicial District Court on May 4.

According to the claim, Billiot was injured on Oct. 14, 2015, while working for the defendant. The suit states that following the incident, the plaintiff presented his employer with a bill for the hospital bill. The suit further states that the plaintiff's supervisor proceeded to terminate the plaintiff on Nov. 11, 2015. In addition to the alleged violation of workers' compensation laws, the suit states that the defendant violated by Fair Labor Standards Act by failing to pay him minimum wages and compensate him for overtime wages.

The defendant is accused of violation of the FLSA and retaliation.

The plaintiff is seeking an unspecified amount in damages. He is represented by Matthew T. Lofaso of the Lofaso Law Firm in Baton Rouge. The case has been assigned to Division D Judge Scott U. Schlegel.
