GRETNA – A Belle Chasse locomotive engineer is seeking damages following an incident in which he allegedly was injured by a faulty railroad switch.

Ryan White filed a suit against Blackwater Midstream Corp., American Midstream LLC and Liberty Mutual Fire Insurance Co. in the 24th Judicial District Court on May 12.

According to the claim, White was at the Blackwater Midstream Corp. location on 660 La Bauve Drive in Westwego when the incident occurred on July 14, 2015. The suit states that while White was trying to make a delivery to the defendant he was required to throw the railroad switch. The suit further states that the switch was malfunctioning and caused the plaintiff injuries when he tried to throw it.

The defendant is accused of negligence through its failure to maintain the premises in a safe condition, failure to warn the plaintiff of the condition of the premises and failure to prevent the plaintiff from injuring himself.

The plaintiff is seeking an unspecified amount in damages. He is represented by Chad D. Lederman of Dudley Debosier Injury Lawyers PLC in New Orleans. The case has been assigned to Division P Judge Lee V. Faulkner Jr.
