Man alleges $5 million in damages after accident

Car accident 18

NEW ORLEANS – A man alleges he was injured when he was rear-ended in an accident by a U.S. Navy employee.

Cristian Chesnut filed a complaint on May 24 in the U.S. District Court for the Eastern District of Louisiana against United States of America and Gilbert Yribe Jr. alleging that defendant Yribe failed to maintain control of his vehicle.

According to the complaint, the plaintiff alleges that on June 2, 2014, he was involved in a motor vehicle accident with defendant Yribe, an employee of the U.S. Navy, in St. Tammany Parish. On April 28, 2015, he alleges he submitted a SF95 to the Department of the Navy. As a result of the accident, he claims he sustained injuries, psychological damages, lost wages, loss of enjoyment of life and incurred medical expenses. To date, the parties have not been able to come to a settlement agreement, the suit states. As alleged in the SF95 submitted, he asserts that his damages are $5,010,000.

The plaintiff holds United States of America and Gilbert Yribe, Jr. responsible because defendant Yribe allegedly operated his vehicle while inattentive or distracted and followed the preceding vehicle too closely.

The plaintiff requests a trial by jury and seeks judgment against defendants for all damages, plus legal interest, all costs of these proceedings and for all general and equitable relief as the court deems fit. He is represented by Robert L. Campbell and Craig J. Fontenot of Williamson Fontenot Campbell & Whittington LLC in Baton Rouge.
