NEW ORLEANS – A client is suing his former lawyers alleging that their negligence caused his suit to be dismissed.

Richard Reynolds filed a complaint on May 25 in the U.S. District Court for the Eastern District of Louisiana against Christine L. Voelkel and Jacques F. Bezou Jr. alleging negligence.

According to the complaint, the plaintiff alleges that in March 12, 2009, his claims against Nissan, the Automobile Club Inter-Insurance Exchange and the Insurance Auto Auctions Corp. due an accident that happened on March 15, 2008, were dismissed, causing him to lose any opportunity to negotiate a settlement. The plaintiff holds Voelkel and Bezou Jr. responsible because the defendants allegedly failed to properly investigate, failed to obtain and present evidence to successfully prosecute the claims, filed to properly oppose the dispositive motions and failed to properly and diligently prosecute an appeal of adverse rulings.

The plaintiff requests a trial by jury and seeks judgment against the defendants for an amount reasonable in the premises, damages, and all costs of these proceedings plus legal interest on all amounts from date of judicial demand until paid. He is represented by David L. Bateman of Bateman Law Firm in Baton Rouge and Thomas R. Pittenger of Pittenger Law Firm in Baton Rouge.
