Man claims he was injured while on Deepwater Champion

NEW ORLEANS – A seaman alleges he was injured while working aboard a drill ship.

Robert Wheeler filed a complaint on June 3 in the U.S. District Court for the Eastern District of Louisiana against TransOcean Offshore USA Inc., Schlumberger Technology Corp. and Freeport-McMoran Exploration & Production Inc. alleging negligence.

According to the complaint, the plaintiff alleges that on July 7, 2014, he sustained severe and permanent personal injuries when he slipped and fell in the shower of the vessel Deepwater Champion, causing him great pain and suffering, resulting in loss wages, medical expenses, lost of fringe benefits, pain and suffering, mental anguish, disability, loss of enjoyment of life, inconvenience and embarrassment.

The plaintiff holds TransOcean Offshore USA Inc., Schlumberger Technology Corp. and Freeport-McMoran Exploration & Production Inc. responsible because the defendants allegedly failed to provide a seaworthy vessel.

The plaintiff requests a trial by jury and seeks judgment against defendants in the amount of $3.5 million and all other recovery under the maritime law, with legal interest and for all costs of these proceedings. He is represented by John H. Denenea Jr. and Brian G. Shearman of Shearman-Denenea LLC in New Orleans.
