Worker accuses former employer of failure to pay wages

Late 03

NEW ORLEANS — A former employee is suing a Louisiana business, alleging failure to pay earned wages.

Nadia Jai filed a lawsuit June 4 in U.S. District Court for the Eastern District of Louisiana against Cherry Crochet, Angeli on Decatur LLC and XYZ Insurance Company alleging they violated the Fair Labor Standards Act and Louisiana law.

According to the complaint, since Jai's termination March 8 through the present, she has not received compensation for her last two weeks of work. The plaintiff alleges the defendants willfully failed to remit all of her overdue wages within 15 days of termination of her employment.

Jai seeks trial by jury, payment for unpaid back wages, liquidated damages, legal costs, attorney fees, post-judgment interest and such other relief as may be deemed appropriate. She is represented by attorney Kara A. Larson of Equal Access Legal LLC in New Orleans.
