Medical malpractice 08

GRETNA – An Orleans Parish woman is seeking damages alleging Ochsner Clinic Foundation lost a sample and she subsequently had her entire thyroid removed.

Monique Conerly filed a suit against Ochsner Clinic Foundation in the 24th Judicial District Court on May 24.

According to the claim, Conerly is an employee of Ochsner. The suit states that in September 2014, the plaintiff was diagnosed with a nodule in her throat and a biopsy of her thyroid was recommended. Although the biopsy was executed in October 2014, the results were inconclusive, the suit states. The doctor examining her allegedly recommended the removal of half of her thyroid, which was done in December.

The suit states that the following this surgical procedure, the plaintiff was informed that the defendant's pathology department had misplaced the sample and it was recommended that the plaintiff have another surgery in case the sample was malignant. Conerly underwent the surgery in February 2015, which took the rest of her thyroid, and purportedly has altered her life drastically.

The defendant is accused of medical malpractice.

The plaintiff is seeking an unspecified amount in damages. She is represented by Kara Hadican Samuels and Nora R. Udell of Kara Hadican Samuels & Associates of New Orleans. The case has been assigned to Division H Judge Glenn B. Ansardi.
