GRETNA – A postal worker has filed a suit against a dog owner alleging the animal attacked him.

Kevin Karrigan filed a suit against Louis Alonso Gomez and ABC Insurance Co. in the 24th Judicial District Court on May 27.

According to the claim, the plaintiff, who is an employee of the U.S. Postal Service, was delivering mail on March 30 when the incident occurred. The suit states that while delivering mail on Presidential Street in Jefferson Parish, the defendant's dog escaped its fenced area and attacked the plaintiff. The suit further states that the defendant's fence was defective, thus allowing the dog to escape.

The defendant is accused of negligence through the failure to maintain the fence in a working manner, failing to maintain control of his dog and failing to provide a warning of the danger.

The plaintiff is seeking an unspecified amount in damages. He is represented by Lucie E. Thornton and R. Vaughn Cimini of Cimini and Associates LLC in Metairie. The case has been assigned to Division C Judge June Berry Darrensburg.
