NEW ORLEANS — A Florida man is suing the St. Tammany Parish Sheriff's Office, alleging it recklessly killed his son.

Richard Greenwood, on behalf of his deceased son Darien Greenwood filed a lawsuit June 28 in the U.S. District Court for the Eastern District of Louisiana against Jack Strain and the St, Tammany Parish Sheriff's Office, alleging murder and intentional infliction of emotional distress. 

According to the complaint, on Oct. 20, 2015, Darien Greenwood and his friend Dean Perkins entered a house uninvited at Highway 1088. The home's owner called 911 and police caught up to Greenwood on state Highway 59 where he and Perkins fled on foot, the suit says. The lawsuit states Greenwood was shot seven times and later pronounced dead at North Oaks Medical Center in Hammond. 

Richard Greenwood alleges the defendants used brutal and lethal force in restraining his son and failed to to prevent his death.

Greenwood seeks a trial by jury, compensatory damages, reasonable attorney fees, court costs, pre- and post-judgment interest, fees and all other relief to which he is entitled. He is represented by attorney Bruce C. Betzer of The Law Office of Bruce C. Betzer in Metairie.
