NEW ORLEANS — A ship employee is suing a vessel operator, alleging negligence led to the plaintiff sustaining injuries.

Darrin Bella filed a lawsuit July 6 in U.S. District Court for the Eastern District of Louisiana against Diamond Services Corporation alleging negligence in failing to provide a safe place to work.

According to the complaint, on Feb. 4, while Bella was working aboard the defendant's M/V Diamond, he experienced an accident that resulted in serious injuries to his foot, knee and other parts of his body. The suit says the led to Bella sustaining mental and emotional pain and suffering, loss of wages and benefits and medical expenses. 

The suit says because of his injuries, Bella is unfit to return to duty as a seaman.

The plaintiff alleges Diamond Services failed to provide a safe place to work, created an unseaworthy vessel and failed to provide adequate personnel for the job.

Bella seeks a trial by jury, adequate maintenance benefits and payment of any and all cure benefits to which he is entitled. He is represented by attorneys Timothy J. Young, Tammy D. Harris, Megan C. Misko and Daniel J. Poolson of The Young Firm in New Orleans.
