GRETNA – A woman is seeking damages over claims that Kmart allowed a dangerous condition to exist that resulted in her fall.

Kenyatta Brumfield filed a suit against Kmart Corp. in the 24th Judicial District Court on June 22.

According to the claim, the plaintiff was a customer at the Kmart store located at 2940 Veterans Blvd. in Metairie on Aug. 26, 2015, when the incident occurred. The suit states that while the plaintiff was walking in the store, she was caused to trip and fall on a fashion ring that had been left on the floor.

The defendant is accused of negligence through allowing such a condition to exist, failing to remedy the situation and failing to provide a safe environment for customers.

The plaintiff is seeking an unspecified amount in damages. She is represented by Robert P. Charbonnet Jr., James S. Rees IV and Richard D. Roniger of the Charbonnet Law Firm in Metairie. The case has been assigned to Division D Judge Scott U. Schlegel.
