A woman is suing Dollar General, claiming that she was physically assaulted by an employee

NEW ORLEANS — A woman is seeking damages, claiming that she was accused of shoplifting and then physically attacked and detained.

Ebony Jones filed a suit against Kelly Croswell and Dolgencorp LLC, doing business as Dollar General, in the Orleans Parish Civil District Court on June 27.

According to the claim, the plaintiff was a customer at the Dollar General located at 4774 Paris Ave. on Sept. 29, 2015 when the incident occurred. The suit states that while the plaintiff was shopping, the defendant suddenly assaulted and detained the plaintiff, claiming that she was shoplifting. The suit additionally states that the defendant used excessive force while detaining the plaintiff, causing her personal injuries and emotional distress.

The defendant is accused of battery and negligent training and retention of the plaintiff through their treatment of Jones.

The plaintiff is seeking an unspecified amount in damages. She is represented by James F. Dixon.

The case has been assigned to Division N Judge Ethel S. Julien.

The Orleans Parish Civil District Court Case number 16-6396.
