GRETNA – An insurance company is seeking damages, claiming that a hair dryer resulted in a house fire.
American Security Insurance Co. filed a suit against Helen of Troy Limited in the 24th Judicial District Court on June 30.
According to the claim, Ladonna Vierra was the owner of a home located at 2105 Killington Drive in Harvey and was also the owner of a Belson Gold 'N Hot hair dryer manufactured by the defendant. The suit states that a family member was using the blow dryer on July 1, 2015, when the product malfunctioned, causing a fire that damaged the residence.
The defendant is accused of failing to adequately design the product, failing to test the product sufficiently, failing to warn customers of the danger and overall negligence in the manufacturing and sale of the product.
The plaintiff is seeking damages of less than $75,000. The plaintiff is represented by Jeremy H. Call, Donald E. McKay Jr. and Jason R. Bonnet of Leake & Andersson in New Orleans.
The case has been assigned to Division B Judge Cornelius E. Regan.
