NEW ORLEANS — A family is suing Louisiana law enforcement officials, alleging the unlawful arrest.of a family member. 

Belardo Avilex Carvajal, Anta D. Carvajal and Max Carvajal filed a lawsuit July 18 in the U.S. District Court for the Eastern District of Louisiana against Terrebonne Parish Sheriff Jerry Larpenter and narcotics agents Lt. Dallas Bookenberger, Travis Sanford and Joseph Renfro, alleging unlawful arrest. 

According to the complaint, on July 16, 2015, 33 agents from different local, state and national jurisdictions, raided the Carvajal residence at 3007 Bayou Dularge Road, Theriot, and illegally searched and caused damage to the family's properties. The suit says this action caused the plaintiffs to experience pain and suffering, mental anguish, embarrassment, loss of earnings, destruction of property and seizure of money and business records. 

The suit says the narcotics agents also illegally arrested Belardo Avilex Carvajal. 

The plaintiffs allege the defendants invaded their privacy, caused serious damage to their home, refused to name the alleged confidential informants, and made false allegations and affidavits to misled the prosecutor.

The Carvajals seek a trial by jury, judgment in favor of Belardo Carvajal for $750,000, in favor of Anta Carvajal for $500,000 and in favor of Max Carvajal for $250,000, plus interest, attorney fees and all other reasonable relief. They are represented by attorney Jerry L. Hermann of Kopfler & Hermann in Houma.
