NEW ORLEANS — A Louisiana man is suing the operators of a ship, alleging their negligence caused the plaintiff to suffer injuries.

Tomas Alvarez filed a lawsuit July 25 in U.S. District Court for the Eastern District of Louisiana against Central Boat Rental Inc., the M/V Miss Pamela, ABC Insurance Company and XYZ Insurance Company, alleging negligence in failing to provide a safe place to work.

According to the complaint, on April 17, while Alvarez was trying to get control of the lose barge in stormy weather in the Gulf of Mexico, he was caused to fall and be severely injured.

The suit says the fall caused Alvarez to sustain medical expenses, pain, suffering and mental anguish, and all related general damage losses estimated to be $4 million.

The plaintiff alleges the defendants failed to to properly train and/or supervise crewmembers, failed to train marine crewmembers in the proper and safe operation of vessels and to warn the crewmembers of imminent danger.

The plaintiff seeks trial by jury, judgment of $4.5 million, punitive damages, attorney fees and for all taxable costs and interest allowed by law. He is represented by attorneys Richard A. Chopin and Justin M. Chopin of The Chopin Law Firm in New Orleans and by Bradley J. Egenberg of Egenberg APLC in New Orleans.
