GRETNA – Two women have filed suit against a local air conditioning business and the HVAC manufacturer, claiming the HVAC system is allegedly defective.

Michelle Boe Bridges, individually and on behalf of her minor child, and Suzette A. Kinchen filed a suit against Southland Air Conditioning & Heating Inc, Trane U.S. Inc. and Ingersoll-Rand Co. in the 24th Judicial District Court on Aug. 8.

According to the claim, the plaintiffs had a heating and cooling unit installed in their home located at 5120 Janice St. in Kenner on Aug. 4, 2006. The suit states that the system came with a 10-year warranty and that it cost $9,783. The suit further states that the machine began and continued to malfunction and did not perform its job.

The defendant is accused of redhibition, negligence and breach of contract by failing to provide a machine that operated as advertised.

The plaintiffs are seeking an unspecified amount in damages. They are represented by James C. Rather Jr.

The case has been assigned to Division J Judge Stephen C. Grefer.
