NEW ORLEANS — A ship owner is suing a shipping company, alleging it owes more than $1 million for breach of contract.

V & Sons Marine SA filed a lawsuit Aug. 12, in the U.S. District Court for the Eastern District of Louisiana against Comerge Shipping Co. Ltd. alleging failure to comply with their agreement.

According to the complaint, on July 7, V & Sons Marine agreed to provide the vessel M/V Mim Vangelis Jr. to carry cargo for defendant under a time charter. As a result of defendant's breach of contract, the suit says, the plaintiff suffered damages totaling $515,668 and cash bond of $773,502.

The plaintiff alleges Comerge Shipping failed to accept delivery of the M/V Mim Vangelis Jr. and improperly attempted to cancel the charter party agreement.

V& Sons Marine seeks trial by jury, judgment of $515,668, that the bunkers aboard M/V Stella Belinda be attached in the amount of $773,502 and all relief law and justice allows. It is represented by attorneys Gary A. Hemphill, Michael M. Butterworth and Rachael E. Ferrante of Phelps Dunbar LLP in New Orleans.
