Administrative assistant accuses Chevrolet dealer of discrimination

NEW ORLEANS — A black Tangipahoa Parish woman is suing a Chevrolet dealership, alleging discrimination and wrongful termination.

Renae Brenson filed a lawsuit Aug. 18 in U.S. District Court for the Eastern District of Louisiana against Hood Chevrolet LLC, doing business as Bill Hood Chevrolet, alleging violation of Title VII of the 1964 Civil Rights Act.

According to the complaint, Brenson, who was employed as an administrative assistant starting in 2010, was subjected to racial discrimination, sexist remarks, harassment, retaliation and a hostile work environment. This harassment, the suit says, caused her to develop physical and mental ailments that required medical treatment. 

Due to the intolerable and illegal work conditions, the lawsuit states, Brenson resigned her employment in April 2016, which she states was constructive discharge. The suit also alleges a white manager forced her to look at pictures of the Confederate battle flag and called her a slave.

Brenson seeks trial by jury, all damages, plus interest, court costs, attorney fees, and all other relief the court deems just and fair. She is represented by attorney Jonathan H. Adams of New Orleans.
