Winn-Dixie accused of not maintaining property, causing man's fall

GRETNA – A man has filed suit against a grocery store over allegations its negligence caused him to slip and fall.

Roscoe Beavers filed a suit against Winn-Dixie Montgomery LLC, doing business as Southeastern Grocers LLC, in the 24th Judicial District Court on Aug. 22.

According to the claim, the plaintiff was a customer at the Winn-Dixie located at 2112 Belle Chasse Highway in Gretna on Sept. 20, 2015, when the incident took place. The suit states that the plaintiff was caused to slip and fall by a puddle of liquid that had been left on the floor.

The defendant is accused of negligence through its failure to inspect and maintain the premises and failing to warn others of the hazardous conditions.

The plaintiff is seeking an unspecified amount in damages. He is represented by Eve S. Reardon and Julie-Ann A. Duhe' Keating of the Keating Law Firm in Metairie.

The case has been assigned to Division C Judge June Berry Darensburg.
