GRETNA – A woman claims a Jefferson Parish couple is responsible for the injuries she sustained from trying to run away from their dog.

Mary McCormick filed a suit against John J. Baltz and Natalie O. Baltz in the 24th Judicial District Court on Aug. 24.

According to the claim, the plaintiff was walking in her neighborhood when the incident occurred on Dec. 26, 2015. The suit states that the defendants' dog began to chase after the plaintiff, who, in turn, began to run. While running away from the dog, the plaintiff was caused to trip and fall on loose gravel, allegedly injuring herself.

The defendants are accused of negligence through their failure to keep the dog on a leash or to follow specific area ordinances about the issue.

The plaintiff is seeking an unspecified amount in damages. She is represented by George B. Recile and Barry W. Sartin Jr.

The case has been assigned to Division O Judge Danyelle M. Taylor.
