Europe II Oyster Inc. alleges HillCorp. Energy damaged oyster bed

GRETNA – An oyster bedding facility is seeking damages for lost oysters allegedly caused by an energy company.

Europe II Oyster Inc. filed a suit against HillCorp Energy Co. in the 24th Judicial District Court on Aug. 24.

According to the claim, the plaintiff was the operator of an oyster bedding location in Barataria Bay. The suit states that though the conditions of the plaintiff's property were very suitable for the oysters, the defendant was responsible for the loss of a large number of oysters through damage and destruction to the plaintiff's facilities while removing pipeline in the area in September 2015.

The defendant is accused of negligence.

The plaintiff is seeking an unspecified amount in damages. The plaintiff is represented by V. Jacob Garbin of Garbin Law Firm in Gretna.

The case has been assigned to Division A Judge Raymond S. Steib Jr.
