NEW ORLEANS – A woman claims that she fell and was injured while visiting someone's home because of the residence's defective condition.

Leslie Brooks filed a suit against Shirley M. Hayes and USAA General Indemnity Co. in the Orleans Parish Civil District Court.

According to the claim, the plaintiff was caused injuries on Sept. 20, 2015, when the plaintiff was walking out of the defendant's home, located at 1742 Frenchman St. The suit states that the plaintiff was caused to fall when her shoe became stuck in the stairs and claims the railing that she grabbed was not sturdy enough to support her to keep her from falling.

The defendant is accused of negligence through failing to maintain the property in a safe manner and failing to inspect the property to make sure it was free of defects.

The plaintiff is seeking an unspecified amount in damages. She is represented by Stephen P. Bruno of New Orleans.

The case has been assigned to Division G Judge Robin M. Giarrusso.
