Katie’s Restaurant & Bar accused of hostile work environment, retaliation

Wrongful term 10

NEW ORLEANS — A fryer is suing Katie’s Restaurant & Bar, a restaurant operator, alleging hostile work environment and retaliation.

Tonika Reed filed a complaint on Aug. 30 in the U.S. District Court for the Eastern District of Louisiana against Katie’s Restaurant & Bar, alleging that the restaurant operator illegally terminated her employment.

According to the complaint, the plaintiff alleges that during her employment with defendant, she was subjected to unwelcome slurs, unwelcome touching and other forms of harassment. She was terminated in late September 2015, causing her to suffer lost wages and emotional distress, she alleges. The plaintiff holds Katie’s Restaurant & Bar responsible because the defendant’s kitchen manager allegedly subjected her to a hostile work environment, unwelcome gender slurs and retaliation, and the defendant allegedly terminated her employment for her filing charges with the U.S. Equal Employment Opportunity Commission.

The plaintiff requests a trial by jury and seeks compensation for damages, attorney fees, costs and for all legal and equitable relief. She is represented by J. Courtney Wilson of J. Courtney Wilson, Attorney at Law in Metairie.
