Mother alleges child's finger was injured at Granville T. Woods Elementary

GRETNA – A Jefferson Parish woman is seeking damages claiming that her child's finger was injured by a door at a school.

Chavon Royal, individually and on behalf of her minor child, filed a suit against Jefferson Parish School Board in the 24th Judicial District Court on Sept. 8.

According to the claim, the plaintiff's minor child was a student at Granville T. Woods Elementary when the incident occurred. The suit states that the minor was caused personal injury on Sept. 10, 2015, when the door to the restroom shut on his finger, severing a portion of it.

The defendant is accused of negligence through failure to ensure the safety of those in the school and overall negligence.

The plaintiff is seeking an unspecified amount in damages. The plaintiff is represented by David L. Bateman of the Bateman Law Firm in Baton Rouge.

The case has been assigned to Division M Judge Henry G. Sullivan Jr.
