Delgado Community College student claims ladder fell on her while walking to class

NEW ORLEANS – A St. John the Baptist Parish student is seeking damages after a ladder fell on her head at a community college.

Sarah Alexander filed a suit against the state of Louisiana through the Board of Supervisors of Community and Technical Colleges, Delgado Community College and Office of Risk Management in the Orleans Parish Civil District Court on Sept. 8.

According to the claim, the plaintiff was walking at the property of Delgado Community College on Sept. 10, 2015, when the incident occurred. The suit states that the plaintiff was caused injury when an unsecured ladder fell on her head, neck and shoulder. The result of the incident was a number of injuries to the plaintiff, which have caused her to incur medical bills and loss of enjoyment of life.

The defendants are accused of negligence through failing to secure the ladder, failing to warn of the danger and overall negligence in maintaining a safe environment for students.

The plaintiff is seeking an unspecified amount in damages. She is representing herself.

The case has been assigned to Division J Judge Paula A. Brown
