Mother, son file wrongful death suit against Richwood Correctional Center, others

MONROE – A woman alleges her husband died from injuries inflicted by another inmate at a correctional center.

Lara J. White, on behalf of her minor child, V.R.W. Jr., and the estate of Vernon Ramone White Sr., deceased filed a complaint on Oct. 6 in the U.S. District Court for the Western District of Louisiana, Monroe Division against LaSalle Corrections Inc., Richwood Correctional Center System LLC, Warden Ray Hanson, et al., alleging that they violated the Eighth and 14th Amendments of the U.S. Constitution.

According to the complaint, the plaintiffs allege that in Oct. 10, 2015, decedent Vernon Ramone White Sr., was arrested and was transported to defendant Richwood's correctional facility, where he was badly beaten and severely injured by another inmate. The plaintiffs allege this incident led to his death on Oct. 13, 2015. The plaintiffs claim they have suffered a loss of love, affection and society.

The plaintiffs holds LaSalle Corrections Inc., Richwood Correctional Center System LLC, Warden Ray Hanson, et al responsible because the defendants allegedly failed to classify and protect inmates and negligently housed decedent with an inmate under the influence of PCP.

The plaintiffs request a trial by jury and seek judgment against defendants in a reasonable amount to be set by the court, plus interest, all court costs, attorney's fees and such other relief as may be just. They are represented by Patrick R. Jackson of Patrick R. Jackson APLC in Bossier City.
