MONROE – A West Monroe man alleges he was subject to racial discrimination at work and terminated for filing a grievance with his union.

Mark A. Bailey filed a complaint on Oct. 7 in the U.S. District Court for the Western District of Louisiana, Monroe Division against Graphic Packaging International Inc. alleging retaliation, racially hostile work environment and other counts.

According to the complaint, the plaintiff alleges that on July 10, 2015, he was terminated from his employment with the defendant, causing him to suffer mental distress, humiliation, embarrassment and loss of income and benefits. The plaintiff holds Graphic Packaging International Inc. responsible because the defendant allegedly subjected him to discrimination because of plaintiff's African-American race, a hostile work environment, retaliation and termination on the basis of his race and for filing an internal grievance trough the labor union.

The plaintiff requests a trial by jury and seeks compensatory and punitive damages in a reasonable amount, reinstatement to his job, costs of litigation and all other relief as the law may provide. He is representing himself.
