LAFAYETTE — A pipefitter is suing Bechtel Corporation Inc., a construction company, citing alleged retaliation and wrongful termination.

Juan Gaspard filed a complaint on Oct. 12, in the U.S. District Court for the Western District of Louisiana against Bechtel Corporation Inc. alleging that the construction company violated the Whistleblower Act.

According to the complaint, the plaintiff alleges that he was terminated from his employment for refusing to participate in defendants’ activities, policies and practices that violated both state and federal health and safety regulations. The plaintiff holds Bechtel Corporation Inc. responsible because the defendant allegedly terminated his employment for filing a formal complaint with the Secretary of Labor alleging various violations of the Occupational Safety & Health Act.

The plaintiff requests a trial by jury and seeks compensation for all damages, attorney's fees and costs, reinstatement and all other relief that the court deems just and equitable. He is represented by Bruce C. Betzer of The Law Office of Bruce C. Betzer in Metairie.
