New Orleans police officer alleges he was injured by California man

NEW ORLEANS – A New Orleans Police Department officer alleges he was injured by a California man after taking him to a hospital.

Damond Harris filed a suit against Mark Slowik in the Orleans Parish Civil District Court on Oct. 26.

According to the claim, the defendant was being transported by the plaintiff to University Hospital in October 2015 for medical attention. The suit states that the defendant became combative at the hospital and injured the plaintiff's shoulder and caused other injuries.

The defendant is accused of negligence through failing to cooperate with a police officer, of being intoxicated and unable to control himself, and for striking the police officer.

The plaintiff is seeking an unspecified amount in damages. The plaintiff is represented by Troy R. Keller of Metairie.

The case has been assigned to Division I Judge Piper D. Griffin.
