Patient accuses doctor, Canal Women's Clinic of breaching standards of care

Medical malpractice 04

NEW ORLEANS – An Orleans Parish woman claims that she had to undergo surgery because of negligent medical treatment.

Heather Johnson filed a suit against Kevin G. Work, M.D. and Canal Women's Clinic LLC in the Orleans Parish Civil District Court on Sept. 9.

According to the claim, the plaintiff was a patient of the defendants and was being treated for spontaneous bleeding. The plaintiff alleges that because of the defendants' negligence in treating her, she eventually underwent a hysterectomy because of a uterine infection and uterine wall polyp.

The defendant is accused of breaching the standard of care, failing to fully investigate the plaintiff's condition and overall negligence.

The plaintiff is seeking an unspecified amount in damages. She is represented by Joseph S. Piacun, Thomas A. Gennusa and Reid S. Uzee of Gennusa, Picaun & Reli in Metairie.

The case has been assigned to Division E Judge Clare Jupiter.
