BATON ROUGE – A motorist alleges he was injured in an accident with a federal employee while traveling in Point Coupee Parish.

Alvin Janice filed a complaint on Nov. 16 in the U.S. District Court for the Middle District of Louisiana against United States of America and Cheryl D. Haley Mushatt alleging negligence.

According to the complaint, the plaintiff alleges that on Oct. 28, 2015, he was involved in a motor vehicle wreck with Mushatt, an employee of the United States Postal Service. On Jan. 14, 2016, he submitted a SF95 to the United States Postal Service for damages amounting to $851,500, the suit states. To date, the suit states the parties have not been able to come to a settlement agreement. The plaintiff holds United States of America and Cheryl D. Haley Mushatt responsible because defendant Mushatt allegedly negligently caused the collision, failed to maintain control of the vehicle and failed to be attentive while operating said vehicle.

The plaintiff requests a trial by jury and seeks judgment against defendants, jointly and severally, for all damages, plus legal interest, for all costs of these proceedings and all equitable relief as the court deems fit. He is represented by John C. Jacobs, John T. Joubert, Janeane M. Gorcyca and Jennifer G. Prescott of Joubert Law Firm APLC in Baton Rouge.
