NEW ORLEANS – A woman claims that she was terminated in retaliation because of her abilities and education.
Carla Jupiter filed a suit against the state of Louisiana, Louisiana State Board of Elementary and Secondary Education, Louisiana State Department of Education, Louisiana Recovery School District, Better Choice Foundation Inc. and Aisha Jones in the Orleans Parish Civil District Court on Nov. 23.
According to the claim, the plaintiff was a full-time contract employee of Better Choice and in 2014, was completing coursework for her doctorate. The suit states the plaintiff planned on obtaining an Educational Leadership Certification, which would qualify her to become a principal.
The suit states that Jones, a principal, began to take actions against the plaintiff, including threatening her and terminating her from her employment. The plaintiff alleges these actions were because Jones perceived her as a threat to her position.
The defendants are accused of breach of contract, wrongful termination, failure to pay past due wages, negligence, defamation, inhibiting union organization and defamation.
The plaintiff is seeking an unspecified amount in damages. She is represented by Mary W. Russo, Lloyd N. Frischhertz, Marcus J. Poulliard, Dominick F. Impastato, Marc A. Frischhertz and Anthony J. Impastato in New Orleans.
The case has been assigned to Division E Judge Clare Jupiter.
