Amtrak employee alleges she was injured when service cart struck platform support

NEW ORLEANS – A woman claims that she was injured while working for Amtrak.

Dora Richardson filed a suit against the National Railroad Passenger Corp., doing business as Amtrak, in the Orleans Parish Civil District Court on Nov. 17.

According to the claim, the plaintiff was an employee of the defendant as a coach cleaner. The suit states that on Nov. 6, 2013, while the plaintiff was riding in a service cart, a defective battery compartment door swung open and caused the cart to strike a platform support, causing injuries to her neck, back, spine, arms and more.

The defendant is accused of negligence.

The plaintiff is seeking an unspecified amount in damages. She is represented by Kathleen D. Lambert and Maria I. O'Bryne Stephenson of Stephenson, Chavarri & Lambert in New Orleans.

The case has been assigned to Division N Judge Ethel S. Julien.
