Jefferson Parish residents say driver failed to keep a safe distance, causing crash

GRETNA – Two Jefferson Parish residents are seeking damages following a car crash.

Anwar Hammad and Kawthar Hammad filed a suit against Ricardo Reed, Southern Eagle Sales & Service LLC, Nationwide Agribusiness Insurance Co. and Imperial Fire and Casualty Insurance Co. in the 24th Judicial District Court.

According to the claim, the plaintiffs were driving on Jan. 12, 2016, at the intersection of LA 3153 in Jefferson Parish when the incident occurred. The suit states that the defendant struck the plaintiffs' car, causing debilitating injuries to Anwar Hammad. Reed allegedly failed to keep a proper lookout, maintain control of his vehicle, stop, yield and keep a safe distance between vehicles.

The plaintiffs are seeking an unspecified amount in damages. The plaintiffs are represented by J. Bart Kelly III, Roderick "Rico" Alvendia, Amy C. Fontenot and Kurt A. Offner of Alvendia, Kelly & Demarest LLC in New Orleans.

The case has been assigned to Division J Judge Stephen C. Grefer.
