NEW ORLEANS – A chef claims that a pressure cooker malfunctioned and caused second and third-degree burns on his chest, face and arms.

Donald Douglas Depp Sr. filed a complaint on Dec. 12 in the U.S. District Court for the Eastern District of Louisiana against NuWave LLC alleging breach of warranty, strict products liability manufacturing and/or design defect and other counts.

According to the complaint, the plaintiff alleges that on Dec. 15, 2015, he was severely injured and sustained serious burns when the NuWave pressure cooker he purchased from the defendant exploded after he had released the pressure as indicated in its instruction manual. He alleges he suffered months of painful rehabilitation and expensive medical treatment. The plaintiff holds NuWave LLC responsible because the defendant allegedly defectively designed, manufactured, tested, advertised, promoted and distributed the subject pressure cooker.

The plaintiff requests a trial by jury and seeks judgment against defendant for all actual damages, plus interest, costs, expenses, attorney fees and all other appropriate relief. He is represented by Joseph C. Peiffer of Peiffer Rosca Wolf Abdullah Carr & Kane APLC in New Orleans.
