BATON ROUGE – An African-American university employee alleges she was subjected to a hostile work environment because of her race.
Joyce Andrews filed a complaint on Dec. 14 in the U.S. District Court for the Middle District of Louisiana against Louisiana State University citing the Civil Rights Act of 1964 and the Americans with Disabilities Act.
According to the complaint, the plaintiff alleges that she has been employed by the defendant since 1980 and has been considered a classified employee since 1998. She alleges that since 2003, she has not received any raises or promotions while several of her white co-workers with less experience and education did. She also claims she was demoted and forced out of her office space and faced increased scrutiny after expressing grievances.
The plaintiff holds Louisiana State University responsible because the defendant allegedly subjected her to racial and disability discrimination and adverse employment actions.
The plaintiff requests a trial by jury and seeks judgment against defendant for all damages, costs and fees as allowed by law. She is represented by Ronald S. Haley Jr. of Haley Associates in Baton Rouge.
