Couple file suit against Transocean Offshore after husband was injured

Oilrig 09

NEW ORLEANS – A Frank's International employee alleges he was injured on a Transocean driller and was injured when a compensator control unit was dropped on him.

Derek P. Kibodeaux and Dawn Kibodeaux filed a complaint on Dec. 30 in the U.S. District Court for the Eastern District of Louisiana against Transocean Offshore USA Inc. alleging negligence.

According to the complaint, the plaintiffs allege that on Oct. 19, 2016, plaintiff Derek Kibodeaux was aboard defendant's Modu Development Driller III performing his work for his employer when he fell and the compensator control unit fell down on top of him on the vessel’s deck. He alleges he sustained severe and permanent injuries to his neck, shoulder, back and knee, causing him to suffer physical pain and suffering, mental anguish, medical expenses and loss of earning capacity. Plaintiff Dawn Kibodeaux alleges she suffered the loss of consortium of her husband.

The plaintiffs hold Transocean Offshore USA Inc. responsible because the defendant allegedly failed to exercise reasonable care to maintain the working area free of hazards.

The plaintiffs request a trial by jury and seek for damages in the amount of $4 million, plus interest, attorneys’ fees, for all costs of these proceedings and all other general and equitable relief. They are represented by Berney L. Strauss and Rhett E. King of Strauss and King APLC in New Orleans.
