NEW ORLEANS – A lead floor hand alleges his employer failed to provide a safe place to work.

Adam Rawls filed a complaint on Dec. 30 in the U.S. District Court for the Eastern District of Louisiana against Rowan Cos. Inc. alleging that the vessel owner failed to provide a safe place to work.

According to the complaint, the plaintiff alleges that he was subjected to physical and verbal harassment, intimidation and abuse by his immediate supervisor, which culminated in him being rushed to medical treatment for symptoms of heart attack on or about Jan. 17, 2016. He alleges he has suffered loss of wages and benefits, impairment of earning capacity and medical expenses. The plaintiff holds Rowan Cos. Inc. responsible because the defendant allegedly failed to adequately train, monitor and/or supervise its employees and failed to protect him from the physical and verbal abuse of supervisory personnel.

The plaintiff requests a trial by jury and seeks judgment against defendant in the total sum of $5 million, plus interest, all costs of these proceedings, and for all other general, equitable maritime relief. He is represented by Berney L. Strauss and Rhett E. King of Strauss & King PLLC in New Orleans and Richard A. Chopin and Justin M. Chopin of The Chopin Law Firm LLC in New Orleans.
