Cook and caregiver files suit against TARC over allegations of unpaid wages

NEW ORLEANS – A former cook and caregiver has filed a class-action lawsuit against a Terrebonne Parish organization over allegations she was not properly compensated for overtime.

Candy Robinson filed a complaint on behalf of individually and on behalf of all others similarly situated filed a complaint on Jan. 3 in the U.S. District Court for the Eastern District of Louisiana against TARC, also known as Terrebonne ARC, alleging that the former employer violated the Fair Labor Standards Act.

According to the complaint, the plaintiff alleges that as a result of defendant's unlawful acts, she suffered a loss of minimum wages and lost proper overtime compensation for time worked over 40 hours per week. The plaintiff holds TARC responsible because the defendant allegedly improperly paid overtime wages at a rate based upon her lowest rate of pay received and failed to maintain accurate time and pay records.

The plaintiff requests a trial by jury and seeks to recover unpaid overtime wages, an equal amount as liquidated damages, attorneys’ fees and costs, and all other relief to which she may be entitled. She is represented by Jody Forester Jackson and Mary Bubbett Jackson of Jackson + Jackson in New Orleans.
